CPI-M condemns suppression of newspaper

The CPI-M on Tuesday denounced the government's decision to cancel the registration of newspaper "Daily Desharkatha".

"Desharkatha" was a prominent newspaper of of 40 years standing and was the second largest circulated daily in the state, the said in a statement.

"The of West has cancelled the registration of the newspaper on flimsy and dubious grounds and consequently the of Newspapers has also withdrawn the certificate of registration," it said.

"This is a brazen attack on the freedom of the press. It is a sad day that 'Desharkatha' has stopped publication on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti."
