PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday ordered to put up an easily-visible big panel illustrating Mahatma Gandhi’s theory of seven social sins and his famous quote on environment protection, at the main entrance of every state government’s office, police station and schools across the state.
Addressing a social welfare department’s function on the occasion of beginning of 150th birth year of Mahatma Gandhi at the Bapu Sabhagar here, Nitish asked the state’s chief secretary Deepak Kumar to issue an order to each state government offices and schools for putting up an easily-visible panel preferably at the main entrance of the offices displaying Gandhi’s theory of seven social sins.

Nitish Kumar pays floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary in Patna.

The CM also read out the seven social sins -- Wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, trade without morality, Science without humanity, religion without sacrifice and politics without principle—at the function and asked the officials to display the ‘seven sins’ on a permanent structure (panel) so that anti-social elements could not destroy it easily.

CM also asked for displaying Gandhi’s another famous quote -- “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed”—on the same panel, so that state government employees, visitors and students could be aware about Gandhi’s ideals.

“Government office means –right from panchayat building to state secretariat and police station to the office of DGP at police headquarters. All offices of state government and schools must display these quotes in bold letters,” Nitish told the chief secretary (sitting on the dais) and said it would bring transparency in the government works and inculcate ideals of honesty among the employees. “There would be a big change in the society even few people take lesson from these sermons of Gandhiji,” Nitish said.

CM also administered oath to all people --present in the jam-packed Bapu Sabhagar having a sitting capacity of 5,000---about building a new Bharat and Bihar based on the ideals of Gandhi ji. More than 5,000 people presents in the Sabhagar including senior government officers present on the dais took pledge of maintaining cleanliness, making Bihar an open defecation-free (ODF) state, not consuming liquor, not taking dowry and not participating in a marriage function where dowry has been taken.

CM also inaugurated, through remote control, altogether nine statues of Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi and Rajkumar Shukla which have been installed at eight places in north Bihar where Gandhi and his spouse visited during Champaran Stryagrah a century ago.

He also laid, through remote control, foundation stones for a Rs 84.49 crore ‘Bapu Tower’ which will be built at a seven-acre plot of land in Gandanibag area of the state capital.

Earlier in the morning, Nitish Kumar, Bihar speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi led a 1.8 KM long ‘Parimiti Yatra’ (perimeter yatra) at Gandhi Maidan, covering the perimeter of the historic ground to mark the beginning of the 150th birth year of the father of the nation.
