15,000 register for Vodafone’s Oct 7 Coimbatore Marathon

The 6th edition of the Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon, scheduled to be held on October 7, has scaled a new high with over 15,000 participants registering for the event.

The marathon, recognised by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association and the Coimbatore District Athletic Association, has three events — 21.1-km run (half marathon), a 10-km run and a 5-km walk/run.

Brought to the city by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) in association with Coimbatore Runners and Show Space Events, the marathon this year has captivated the interest of the corporate world with new sponsors coming forward.

Prize money

Prize money amounting to over ₹2.5 lakh will be presented to the winners in separate categories for men and women. The marathon route will be fully supported by aid stations, hydration points, medical facilities, ambulance services, route markers, course marshals and the finish area with refreshments, etc.

Timing chips will be used to keep track of the participants and provide official and personal times.

Awareness

S Murali, Business Head, Vodafone India Ltd, Tamil Nadu, said the number of participants has been increasing every year, indicating the rising awareness about the cause as well as the popularity of the event.

Balaji, Managing Trustee, CCF, said it has over the years become a landmark event not just in the marathon calendar but also in the foundation’s initiatives against cancer, transforming the lives of many families.
