WESTPORT — On Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., Partners Village Store and Kitchen will host Louise Miller as a part of the fall Writers Series, to celebrate the release of her second novel, "The Late Bloomers Club," a delightful look at the intricacies of small-town life.

In 2016, Miller delighted readers and reviewers alike with her charming debut novel, "The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living," which garnered praise from The New York Times Book Review, Bon Appetit, Real Simple, and Elle.com amongst others, and now her beloved characters from Guthrie, Vermont are back!

In "The Late Bloomers Club," Miller returns to the sleepy fictional New England town of Guthrie, Vermont, to tell the story of two headstrong sisters, Nora and Kit Huckleberry. Nora, the owner of the Miss Guthrie Diner, is perfectly happy serving up apple cider donuts, coffee, and eggs to her regulars. Kit left Guthrie behind years ago to pursue her dreams as an aspiring filmmaker. After a tragic car accident, the two sisters find out they stand to inherit the home and land of Peggy Johnson, the town’s beloved cake lady.

When it comes to light that Peggy was in the process of selling her land to a big-box developer before her death, Kit thinks all of her problems are solved. But Nora isn’t quite ready to let go of the property, complete with a charming farmhouse, an ancient apple orchard, and clues to a secret life no one knew Peggy had—and she worries about the effect it will have on their small town. Meanwhile, the people of Guthrie are divided—some want the opportunities the development will bring, while others are staunchly against any change. Troubled by the conflicting needs of the town, and confused by her growing feelings towards Elliot, the big-box developer’s rep, Nora is faced with a decision that will forever change her life.
