Weather Update: Severe thunderstorms and disruptive snowfall predicted for parts of SA

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the extreme eastern Free State, north western KwaZulu-Natal and the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the north-western parts of the Northern Cape, the extreme eastern parts of the North West and Gauteng.

Watches

Disruptive snowfall is expected over the high-lying areas of south-western KZN.

Rain

Heavy rainfall is expected along the east coast, between Richards Bay and Port Edward. A 60% chance of rainfall has been predicted for East London, moving into the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, the extreme north of KZN and the southern parts of Mpumalanga.

Scattered showers are expected in the central parts of Mpumalanga, the north-western parts of the North West and the entire Gauteng province. The same has been predicted for the northern half of the Free State, the remainder of the Eastern Cape and the eastern parts of the Western Cape.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are expected to be very cold in the central interior, the Northern Cape, the Eastern Cape and parts of the Western Cape. Cold weather has been predicted for Limpopo, and from the east to the west coast.

Bethlehem in the Free State is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to 1°C.

Maximum temperatures will be cool in the Free State, central to southern parts of the Northern Cape and parts of the Western Cape.

The northern parts of the country will be hot, while the west coast is expected to be warm.

Lephalale and Mokopane in Limpopo are expected to be two of the hottest places, reaching a high of 34°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will reach a high of 28°C and Johannesburg 26°C.

Bloemfontein is expected to reach 21°C.

Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 20°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to reach a high of 19°C and Durban a high of 18°C.
