Thiruvananthapuram: Construction of
Hill Highway, which connects
Parassala in the district to Nandarappadavu in Kasaragod district has begun at Parassala constituency.
Parassala MLA C K Hareendran inaugurated preliminary works for construction of the highway. First phase involves works in the Parassala-Kudappanamoodu stretch. Around Rs 105 crore has been allotted for Parassala constituency alone.
Hareendran said that the project will help in improving the agriculture market of high ranges and ensure a better connectivity. This dream project will make Parassala a point of convergence of hill, coastal and national highways, the MLA said.
The 1,251-km hill highway will pass through 13 districts. Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board has allotted Rs 1,426 crore for construction of 493km stretch in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayand and Kasaragod.
The works in Parassala constituency will be held in two phases. The first phase will be in Parassala-Karakkonam-Kudappanamoodu stretch and Rs 54 crore has been allotted for the same. The second one is Kudappanamoodu-Kuttapoo-Amboori-Vazhichal-Kallikkadu-Paruthipally stretch which has been allotted Rs 51 crore.
Around 80% of land acquisition has been completed for first phase. The total width of the corridor will be 12 metres, which includes 7.5 metre tarred surface, footpath and drain on either sides etc. Construction of railway overbridge at Parassala and bridge at Kallikkad are parts of the project. Rubberized bitumen will be used for construction of hill highway.
The MLA said that phase 1 works will be completed in 10 months. Tender process for the second phase has begun.
