Mangala Kamble, Panchayat Development Officer of Chambol Gram Panchayat (GP) in Bidar district, has alleged harassment by officials of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department and GP members.
In a letter written on October 1, 2018 to L.K. Atheeq, Principal Secretary, RDPR, and copies of which were sent to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and RDPR Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Ms. Kamble alleged that the department officials and elected GP members have been harassing her for working honestly.
Mr. Atheeq told The Hindu that he had not received the letter so far. He said he would look into the issue soon.
Ms. Kamble alleged that the GP members have been seeking bribe for all kinds of work. “It has become a crime to work honestly in public interest without adjusting to the corrupt system, where public money is looted by corrupt elected representatives and officers,” Ms. Kamble alleged.
She said she had written to senior officers in the RDPR and the Governor too earlier, but no action was taken.
The Chambol GP was selected for the Gandhi Gram Puraskar for 2017-18 and the award was given on Tuesday by the Chief Minister.
