LUDHIANA: A 7-year-old girl who was thrashed by the
live-in partner of her mother, after rape attempt, has succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Ludhiana on Tuesday morning. The girl was fighting for her life in the hospital form one week.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested the main accused on Monday night. While the mother has already been arrested a week ago.
According to police, the accused have confessed that the girl was a hurdle between their physical relationship as the couple used to live in a one-room rented accommodation.

Ludhiana police on September 28 lodged FIR on the statement of a 36-year-old man that his niece (sister's daughter) has been brutally thrashed and assaulted by live-in-partner of her sister.
Initially the police lodged FIR under sections of 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 376(Rape), 511 (attempt to rape), 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and POCSO Act, however, on Tuesday the police have added section 302 (murder) in it.
The complainant told that his sister got married to an Abohar based man 13 years ago and they have a 7-year-old daughter from this marriage. Around one year ago, his sister eloped from house and started living with the accused in
live-in relationship. Two months ago the duo shifted to Ludhiana and started living in a rented accommodation with the girl.
"On September 26, the girl's maternal uncle came to know that his niece is admitted in hospital as the accused man has thrashed him. Following this on September 28, I lodged a complaint."
The SHO, inspector Davinder Singh said that the police have arrested the accused mother on September 29 while the main accused has been arrested on Monday night following a tip-off. He said that he wanted to have physical relation with the woman, however, the girl used to wake up which fumed him and he decided to eliminate her.
The official added that, On September 26 when the woman, 35, who works as a peon in a factory had gone for work after leaving her daughter to a nearby school. The man was alone at home when the girl returned from school at around 3pm. The accused locked himself with the girl and attempted to rape her. When she raised alarm the accused brutally thrashed him with a stick. The accused created panic when the girl got unconscious. He raised alarm and called the owner of the house and rushed the girl to a nearby private hospital. Meanwhile, when the woman returned home neighbours told her about the incident but she did not react and asked them too to keep mum.
