AMARAVATI(AP): The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday constituted the State Information Commission (SIC) under the Right to Information Act, 2005, by appointing three Information Commissioners.

Retired IFS officer M Ravi Kumar, retired IPS officer B V Ramana Kumar and advocate Katta Janardhana Rao have been appointed as State Information Commissioners for a period of five years or till they attain the age of 65 years.

The names were chosen by a committee headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu a couple of months ago and forwarded to state governor E S L Narasimhan for approval.

Leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who is also a member of the committee, did not attend the meeting as he was on a foot march.

Based on the governor's approval, chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha issued a government order notifying the appointment of the three State Information Commissioners.

However, there is no mention of a Chief Information Commissioner in the notification.

This is the first Information Commission for the state after its bifurcation in June 2014.

The appointment of Information Commissioners was undertaken after the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad directed the State government to complete the task last year.
