LUDHIANA: Three months after a trader was injured following unidentified car-borne miscreants firing at him in broad daylight at his shop near Kalgidhar
Gurdwara in Field Gunj,
police on Sunday released sketches of three
suspects with half-covered faces. The sketches were published in local newspapers, announcing rewards for the informer.
The victim — 58-year-old Tarlochan Singh Chadha of BRS Nagar — is a wholesale trader of a popular brand of locks and cosmetics. On June 20, around 2.15pm, Tarlochan — along with his brother Kuldeep Singh and friend Kamal — was at his shop, while his workers were busy. Suddenly, three masked miscreants (all aged between 20 and 30 years) barged into his office and fired at him. Two bullets hit his right leg and one pierced through his left leg.
Police officials said within six seconds, the miscreants came out of the shop, pulled down the shutter and boarded a waiting car (white Maruti Swift), fleeing towards Brown Road. They added that Tarlochan’s friend hid under a table to save himself, and the miscreants did not want to kill the trader, as they had deliberately fired at his legs.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-I) Gurpreet Singh Sikand said the police so far had no clue in the case. “We only have sketches of half-covered faces, which we have released today (Sunday).” He added that the police had already got an image of the vehicle’s numberplate, but it was a fake one. The weapon used in the crime was a .32 bore pistol.
An FIR under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, and Arms Act was lodged in Division No.2 police station.
