Melania Trump Departs For Africa on First Solo Trip Abroad

First Lady Melania Trump is traveling to Africa on her first solo trip abroad.????Her five-day, four-country tour promoting child welfare will kick off in Ghana in the West, followed by Malawi in the South, Kenya in the East and Egypt in the Northeast.

????And even though she’s leaving her husband at home, several experts are saying she may still have to do some heavy lifting to counter some of the President Trump’s negative comments about the continent.????But given that first ladies usually practice a softer form of diplomacy, her visit could mend some open wounds.

????Separate from an event she held in London this past July, this week’s trip will mark Trump’s first extended period promoting her “Be Best” program and its goals abroad.

????This five day tour will feature a mix of visits to hospitals, schools, and shelters as she focuses on the well-being of children.

????Former first ladies Clinton, Bush and Obama also made repeat solo trips to Africa.??
