A prayer hall was vandalised and copies of the Bible were torn by miscreants at Periyar Nagar at Orleanpet here on Sunday.
The police said Vincent, an electrician, and his wife Stella Mary had been organising prayers for the last two weeks from the first floor of their house in Periyar Nagar.
On Sunday, Ms. Mary along with a group of 10 children were participating in a prayer when a group of six persons barged into the prayer hall and assaulted Ms. Mary. The group ransacked the furniture and abused her in filthy language. Mr. Vincent, who came to her rescue, was severely assaulted by the mob. The Orleanpet police are investigating.
