AHMEDABAD: Umesh Khode, 27, a constable with Botad police, was stabbed to death by three persons in Bapunagar late on Sunday night. According to police sources, a love triangle is suspected to be the motivation behind the murder, which took place in public.
All three persons accused — Siddharth Bhadoriya (21), a third-year college student; his friend Chandrakant Kechi and a minor — have been arrested in the case. A cross complaint was registered by Siddharth Bhadoriya against the constable, for stabbing him as well. According to police sources, Umesh had an affair with a girl, a resident of Bapunagar. “He broke up with the girl, who started dating Siddharth Bhadoriya,” said a senior police officer.

According to the complaint lodged by Khode’s brother, Ghanshyam, his brother left their house at Sumin Park Society in Vastral at about 8.30pm on Sunday night on his motorcycle.

“He then received a call from Shardaben Hospital, that his brother has been brought in with 12 stab wounds and is critical. Ghanshyam has alleged that Umesh told him, while he was being treated, that Bhadoriya called him to an industrial estate at Sonariya Block in Bapunagar,” said a senior police official. According to police sources, Siddharth showed him his selfie with the girl and told Umesh to stay away from her. “Umesh then showed Siddharth his own selfies with the girl. This resulted in a fight, after which Siddharth pulled out a knife and stabbed Umesh. Umesh fought Siddharth and his friends and stabbed Siddharth after snatching the knife from him,” a police source said.

Deputy commissioner of police, Zone 4, Himkarsingh, said after the three accused fled, Umesh was rushed to Shardaben Hospital but he succumbed to the stab wounds. “Siddharth then got himself admitted to a private hospital, where he has been put under guard. We formed teams and nabbed Chandrakant Kechi and the 16-year-old boy,” added Himkarsingh.
