Brace for traffic snarls in Hitec City

Commuters may bear the brunt of construction work for metro ‘reversal’ facility

Citizens headed towards HiTec City and its vicinity should brace for traffic snarls with the metro rail authorities deciding to expedite the construction of 22 pillars and viaduct beyond Hitec city station up to Hotel Trident for creation of train ‘reversal’ facility.

The reverse facility is to extend the overhead viaduct from HiTec City metro station up to the hotel for about 650 metres which will allow the metro trains coming from Nagole to reverse and return for the journey towards Nagole on Corridor Three. This is necessary because the Corridor Three terminal station of Raidurg at Mindspace junction will take another year or so to be completed.

Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N.V.S. Reddy, L&T Metro Rail PD M.P. Naidu, Cyberabad traffic police and other senior officials inspected the area on Sunday to take crucial decisions on how the construction will be taken up in light of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan setting a deadline of December 15 to start metro rail services between Ameerpet and HiTec City to complete the entire Corridor Three — Nagole to HiTec City (28 km).

Partially-closed road

The road from Cyber Tower junction to Cyber Gate way junction is to be closed partially and the Cyber Towers flyover will become a temporary one-way flyover towards Cyber Gateway with the traffic to be diverted through Deloitte crossroad – Oracle Jn - Google crossroad – Hitex – Shilparamam - Hitec city Jn, etc.

Metro rail engineers will work round the clock and it has been decided to shift the four pillars spots on middle of the road between Cyber Towers and Shilparamam flyover to prevent further reduction of carriageway. These pillars will be now built adjacent to the flyover and two pillars are expected to be constructed in the central median of the flyover.

Ramp widening

Ramp portion of the flyover is being widened for the purpose and involves a “difficult engineering solution of strengthening and rebuilding the sidewalls of the ramp of the flyover”, explained Mr. Reddy.

Two portal pillars (‘U’ shaped) will be built near Cyber Towers immediately and traffic will be diverted temporarily till the construction work is completed. Then, work on regular pillars on the road median will be taken up by widening and restoring the road before Hotel Trident.

“We will be working with the traffic police to minimise inconvenience to road users. Construction barricading will be removed wherever foundation works are completed to facilitate flow of traffic,” he said. In the meantime, remaining entry/exit works of Jubilee Hills Check Post, Peddamma temple, Durgamcheruvu and HiTec city Metro stations plus other balance works will be done.

Demolition on cards

On its part, HMR will take up demolitions of affected properties near the Durgamcheruvu station and get the street level urban rejuvenation works completed like footpaths, drains, tiling, barricading, etc. DCP (Traffic) Cyberabad Vijay Kumar was also present.
