South Africa gained a fraction over six-tenths of a rating point for the win and remain in fifth place, while Australia stay seventh, still 2.74 points better off than France.

The All Blacks, meanwhile, retained the Rugby Championship title and their No 1 spot with a 35-17 win over ninth-placed Argentina in Buenos Aires.

According to World Rugby's official website, a heavy defeat at the hands of Argentina would have seen the All Blacks relinquish their long-held status as the world's No 1 nation to Ireland.

But the Kiwis never really looked in trouble after racing into a 21-3 lead after 31 minutes.
