Despite making a stroke-filled 94 in a triumphant cause against Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Tamil Nadu opener Abhinav Mukund wasn’t exactly beaming.

Abhinav Mukund scored a stroke-filled 94 against Bengal
Chennai:
“More than missing out on the hundred, what hurt me was that I couldn’t stay till the end to complete the task. I love playing the sheet-anchor role. The ball I got out to was there to be hit as the fielder was positioned at mid-off,” said Abhinav.
About his opening partnership with N Jagadeesan, Abhinav said, “We had a good stand against Services. It’s a new role for him and he is getting better with every game. I’m sure he will make a very good opening batsman,” added Abhinav.
Asked about Tamil Nadu’s chances of progressing from the group, the southpaw said the group is still wide open. “We are getting used to this format. Any team can beat any other team. A lot of teams have surprised the stronger opponents. I’m happy that I’m contributing in every way I can,” remarked the India opener.
On his approach to his innings against Bengal, Abhinav explained, “Right from the Duleep Trophy, I have made a conscious effort to enjoy my batting. I’m not worried about things that aren’t in my hands. I don’t want to change my game and play like someone else. I look to score as many runs as I can in the Power play. I rotate the strike well and whenever I give the team a good start, it is capable of chasing any total.”
Abhinav was pleased with how his team’s middle-order has been shaping up. “There is a lot more solidity now compared to the past. Indrajith and Vijay Shankar have been scoring consistently and having a left-hander in Anirudh is of great help,” pointed out Abhinav.
