CPI(M) State secretary dismisses proposed ‘grand alliance’ as opportunistic

CPI (Marxist) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said that the Bahujan Left Front, the coalition of parties floated by CPI (M), was the only alternative to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti as it was committed to the cause of downtrodden sections in the State.

Mr. Veerabhadram termed the proposed alliance of the Congress, the TDP, the CPI and the Telangana Jana Samiti headed by M. Kodandaram as an “opportunistic” alliance. He ruled out the scope of BLF joining the alliance as the CPI (M) was against the TRS which was steeped in corruption as also the Congress which had upper class dominance.

The CPI (M) State secretary released the party’s logo, farmer with plough, allotted to the BLF by the Election Commission on Sunday. He was particularly critical of Prof. Kodandaram for his reported negotiations with the BJP over possible tie-up between the two parties.

“Prof. Kodandaram owes an explanation to the people on his reported interaction with the BJP. How can he contemplate a tie-up with the BJP which has tacit understanding with the TRS in Telangana?” he said. The TJS president should clarify whether there was any discussions with the BJP.

Replying to queries, he said the BLF was not formed in favour of any political party or a coalition of parties. “We are working for the victory of candidates of the BLF who represent weaker and downtrodden sections of society,” he asserted.
