AHMEDABAD: A strange incident took place at a bungalow in Madhuvan Society in
Naroda on Sunday night. A 35-year-old teacher, Lalita Patel, first threw chilli powder and green chilli mash into the eyes of her husband, Kanu Patel, and then stabbed him thrice. Police sources said Lalita has fled with jewellery and some documents from the house.
Inspector H B Vaghela of Naroda police station said Patel was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is said to be critical. According to FIR lodged by Patel, he married Lalita Rajput (35), in May 2017 through a marriage bureau, after the death of his first wife in March 2017. Patel has a 14-year-old son, Meet, who is mute and is physically challenged.
“This was Lalita’s second marriage too and she has an 8-year-old daughter. Lalita is teacher in a local school while Patel is estate broker and runs a tuition class in the area. Patel alleged that on Sunday he had a fight with Lalita over proper care for Meet. The issue was resolved with the intervention of the women’s helpline,” added Vaghela. Police sources said Lalita later left the house saying that she was going to the tuition class to check answer sheets. “Later that night, when Patel returned home, he told Lalita to first feed Meet which she refused to do. She instead asked Patel to transfer the bungalow to her name. This led to a serious fight between the two in the presence of Shardaben, who is their cook,” added a police officer.
According to FIR, Lalita rushed into kitchen and emerged with red chilli powder and a mash of green chilli and threw it in Patel’s eyes. “Before Patel could react, Lalita stabbed him thrice in the back. She then made off with jewellery and her documents. As Shardaben raised the alarm, neighbours gathered and rushed Patel to a private hospital,” added Vaghela.
