KOLKATA: A 27-year-old PSC (public service commission) examinee with earphones plugged in, fell off a train and died near Dum Dum railway station on Sealdah-Ranaghat section of Eastern Railway on Sunday morning. The victim, Nittyananda Das, had boarded the train from Belghoria station.

According to GRP sources, the incident took place around 11.30am when Das, a resident of East

Midnapore’s Egra was on his way to the PSC exam centre near the Sealdah station.

The victim’s co-passengers reportedly told police Das was leaning on the door of the compartment in the Sealdah-bound down Krishnanagar local, while being engrossed on his smart phone. “The train wasn’t as crowded that he would need leaning at the door even with earphones plugged while talking or listening to music on his mobile. Sensing danger, some passengers also alerted him several times, but with earphones on, Das was completely immersed in the device and paid no heed to the passengers’ warnings,” a Dum Dum GRP officer said.

Das had received deep injuries on his head and waist.
