Alleging that corruption was rampant under TDP rule, BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana on Sunday said the State was mired in a debt of ₹1.30 lakh crore and questioned where all the money collected in the name of Amaravati had gone.
He also demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should show at least one scheme which was not supported by the Central government.
Speaking at the swearing-in of A. Sriram as the city party president, Mr. Lakshminarayana said the CM also owed an explanation why foundations were so far not laid for the Raj Bhavan, the High Court, the Assembly and the Secretariat for which the Centre had given ₹3,500 crore.
He insisted that the TDP had snapped its ties with the BJP purely on political grounds but not because the Central government cheated the State as was being claimed by the CM.
Mr. Lakshminarayana alleged that huge sums meant for welfare schemes went into the pockets of the TDP cadres and the CM would not take action against them for obvious reasons.
The Central government was implementing about 160 welfare schemes and gave substantial amount to the State.
Call to cadres
“We have done a lot for the State. Unless we reach out to every doorstep [under ‘Intintiki BJP’ programme from October] and put facts before the people, we cannot withstand the impact of the CM’s false propaganda,” he exhorted the cadres and added that the BJP had emerged as the world’s largest political party followed by the Chinese Communist Party.
Party south India political feedback committee member and Chikmagalur MLA C.T. Ravi said the Congress party was ruled by a dynasty but the BJP had men of integrity and hard work at the helm.
He said critics should remember that it was during the NDA dispensation that the country had metamorphosed into a global power. Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju, MLC P.V.N. Madhav and others were present.
