The Energy Department is striving to make Andhra Pradesh the most energy-efficient State in the world in the next four years as per the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Officials have pegged the energy savings potential at 15,000 million units (MU) in the stipulated time. Accordingly, an action plan is being drafted.
Mr. Naidu has advised all the government departments to appoint nodal officers for rigorous implementation of energy conservation measures in their respective departments in order to achieve the goal.
Installation of around 30 lakh LED street-lights by the end of December will be a major milestone.
Official sources said that 133 MU of energy had been saved because of retrofitting six lakh LED lights in 110 urban local bodies. Village panchayats could benefit by around 333 MU and a monetary saving of ₹200 crore by retrofitting 30 lakh LED street-lights in coordination with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
Besides, one crore families had already been supplied two crore LED bulbs at a price of ₹10 each against the MRP of ₹400 (2015-16).
Farmers had been supplied 33,000 energy-efficient agriculture pump-sets free of cost.
The government also plans to implement another unique programme of introducing one lakh electric vehicles in a phased manner with the support of EESL.
