PUNE: To meet the rising demands and challenges in the field of information security, Virtusa Corporation, a global provider of digital strategy, digital engineering, and IT outsourcing services, has partnered with Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT) of the Symbiosis International (Deemed University) to start their first Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the state.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Madu Ratnayake, Chief Information Officer, Virtusa Corporation and Dhanya Pramod, Director at SCIT, Pune. Speaking about the initiative, Ratnayake told Sakal Times that as SCIT has a course in information security (IS) they have decided to nurture students on IS to bridge the industry-academia gap.

“The industry demands are changing at a faster pace and we need the academia to walk the same pace,” he added. In terms of academia tie ups with business schools, Virtusa has tied up with Great Lakes Institute of Chennai and SCIT.

“We are sure the CoE will play a major role in uplifting the country’s technology infrastructure to a major extent. In addition, this association will nurture young graduates from the campus and will provide them a global exposure towards various domains within enterprise security,”  Ratnayake added.

As part of the association, Virtusa will nominate its subject matter experts to give out industry-oriented invaluable inputs. Additionally, as part of the coursework, students will have the opportunity to work on real-time use cases that will expose them to actual work scenarios. The Virtusa team will mentor and review their work to ensure they are industry-ready by the time they pass out. Students will also be given an opportunity to intern at Virtusa offices along with pre-placement offers.

Dhanya Pramod, Director of SCIT said, “Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has welcomed and nurtured relationships with various organizations to bridge the industry-academia gap.”
