SPPU starts three diploma courses in Defense and Strategic Studies

PUNE: Savitribai Phule Pune University has started three new courses in the Defense and Strategic Studies Department. The courses were unveiled at a program organized by the varsity celebrating the Surgical Strike day in the campus.

The three courses are diploma in Disaster Management and National Security, diploma in Counter Terrorism Studies and diploma in Defense Analysis and National Security. All the three courses are post graduate diploma. Each of them will be of one year duration.

Students who have done their post-graduation in International Relations, Political Science, or any other course can apply for these courses. This course is specially designed to help such students get jobs after completing the course," said Vijay Khare, Director, Yashwantrao Chavan National Centre of International Security and Defense Analysis (YC-NISDA).

The department of Defense and Strategic Studies was established in 1963 as Department of Military Studies, offering undergraduate courses on military studies. Currently DDSS offers M.A. /M.Sc. in Defence and Strategic Studies, M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Defence and Strategic Studies. Semester and credit pattern is followed for all the courses, said the official website.

YC-NISDA was established 'to establish a globally recognized research, teaching and training center on the campus of the Savitribai Phule Pune University in the multi-disciplinary area of strategic and national security affairs.'
