Hundreds of people from different walks of life, including women, senior citizens, children and sports enthusiasts, took part in Trichy Marathon on Sunday.

The half marathon, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruchi chapter, Young Indians and Kauvery Hospital, was aimed at promoting organ donation.

The organisers used the opportunity to create awareness on donating organs including kidney, liver, heart, tissues, eye and bone marrow.

The event was conducted in three categories: 21 km, 10 km and 5 km.

Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi, A. Amalraj flagged off the mini marathon at Uzhavar Sandhai ground in Thennur.

Tiruchi Airport Director K. Gunasekaran inaugurated the 10 km marathon. The 5 km marathon was flagged off by A. Mayilvahanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime and Traffic. More than 10,000 people, including professional runners, participated in the event.

The events culminated at Anna Stadium, where Collector K. Rajamani honoured winners with prizes.

N. Ravichandran, Corporation Commissioner, K. Meena, former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, S. Chandrakumar, organising chairman, and A.S. Ananthakrishnan, Chairman, CII, Tiruchi Zone, participated.
