THANE: Thane crime branch has arrested one more person in the fake
BMC recruitment scam, in which 36 job aspirants were duped of over Rs 54 lakh with the promise of lucrative postings. Each candidate was lured into parting with a few lakhs to land the supposed job of their choice in the BMC.
The main accused, alleged kingpin Datta Prasad aka Tushar Dhuri (22), planned the racket right from setting up interviews to recrutiments and even paid a salary to select candidates”. The three arrested accused include Rahul Kelkar, Prakash Gaikwad and now Aniket Rane. A woman, who is said to have interviewed the aspiring candidates, is on the run.
A senior official said that Dhuri posed as the BMC’s human resources department man. “He claimed to be the best employee of the
BMC and that he had won trophies and awards. He also travelled in a car with the BMC logo,” said the official. “Dhuri flaunted his contacts with top BMC officials. Word-of-mouth communication ensured that the aspirants believed his story and approached him for various posts and openings across the so-called BMC ‘branches’,” said the senior official.
