BENGALURU: The Garden City will host its first Plog Run on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. Around 5,500 people are expected to participate in the Bengaluru Plog Run to be held in 50 locations across the city.

The first of its kind, plogging combines the traditional marathon with the need to pick up plastic waste thrown in public spaces.

The event organised by various like-minded organisations including Go Native, Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation and Let’s Be the Change in association with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike aims at educating citizens to responsibly dispose plastic waste. Participants will pick waste from selected localities and route these to waste disposal channels.

The organisers of the event have planned to create a record in the Guinness Book of World Records on the most plastic bottles collected for recycling in 12 hours, according to a press release.

As a part of Plog Run, the collection of plastic bottles will start from 8 am on Tuesday and end by 8pm. Citizens of Bengaluru are requested to donate used plastic bottles and work together towards the yeoman service of detoxing Bengaluru.

Citizens are requested to donate and drop the water bottles @ the BBMP Corporation Circle Glass House. All the plastic bottles collected during this Plog run will be brought to a central location which is situated at BBMP glass house.
