PANAJI: The all women crew of Indian Navy’s Tarini vessel, which completed the circumnavigation of the globe, was invited to participate in the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 10, where they won Rs 12.50 lakh as prize money.

The amount won at KBC Karamveer Special Episode, aired on Friday, will be the given away for charity to Indian Navy Benevolent Association.

The Skipper of INSV Tarini, Lt Cdr Vartika Joshi, who was overwhelmed to meet the show’s host Amitabh Bachchan, said, “It was a great experience and honour to meet legend Amitabh Bachchan. He has a very enigmatic personality and I was in awe to see how he kept the audience glued to the show.”

“It was less about KBC and more about Tarini. Bachchan Ji made sure to bring out much more stories about the voyage. Apart from that, the experience of interacting with him was awesome. He is absolutely humble and one of his kind. We were treated respectfully and this was a dream come true,” said crew member Lt Swathi P.

Braving treacherous seas and displaying exemplary courage, the circumnavigation mission witnessed several gut-wrenching moments.

“Though we expected Tenzing Norgay award as a team but never thought that each one of us will be receiving the Award,” Lt Cdr Swathi said.

Speaking about the voyage, Lt S Vijaya Devi said, “It was, of course, a daring voyage around the globe. We had been trained for three years by Navy veteran Capt Dilip Dealing. With high waves, when we come to the land we actually feel how insignificant we are. This voyage made us more grounded. The moments were unforgettable.”
