Nagpur: The city police department has made an appeal to senior citizens to approach ‘Helpline’ (0712-2226533) for their grievances.
The United Nations has earmarked October 1 as ‘International Day of Older Persons’ and the police took the opportunity to appeal to the senior citizens to seek assistance for any issue they might need addressing.

In the backdrop of the globally adopted day for acknowledging the efforts of the elderly generation who helped build the society and nations, the department has also appealed to the public at large to ensure the seniors are treated with due respect and care. They have also stepped up vigilance regarding their security and are focusing on bringing down crime against them.

The department issued a press statement stating that the senior citizens have been relegated to an inferior status in the society on the pretext of citing their ineffective presence in various schemes of modernization and development.

Sources said a special cell for the elderly is already in place which has a database of more than 3,000 members who are being assisted by the cops on a regular basis following any kind of alert from them.
