Cabbie with 35 burglary cases, held

HYDERABAD: A private cabbie, who committed house burglaries in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was arrested here on Saturday. Nara Basawaraju, 40, was nabbed by Rachakonda police at Chintalkunta Crossroads and property worth Rs 8.6 lakh was recovered. A Tirupati resident, Basawaraju was involved in 35 cases of house burglaries in both the states, including four in Hyderabad and one in AP this year, since 2001.

Cops said Basawaraju resorted to burglaries as his earnings from driving was not sufficient to run the family. He was released from the Central Prison in Nandyal in June this year and began committing burglaries in Jawaharnagar, Medipally and LB Nagar police station limits. He was also involved in a burglary case at Chinna Chowk town police station in Kadapa district. Apart from 14 tola gold ornaments, nine tola silver and Rs 62,000 cash, were recovered from the accused.
