Can A 1,000 HP Ford GT Beat The McLaren 720S In A Straight Line?

Since the McLaren 720S has come out on top in almost every duel it has entered, being beaten in a straight line is headline material.

The latest contender is a second-gen Ford GT that has approximately 1,000 HP (1,014 PS / 746 kW) at the crank, and 890 HP (903 PS / 664 kW) at the wheels. The GT’s 5.4-liter V8 has been fitted with two turbochargers and other tuned internals by Heffner Performance, and has reportedly burned a $40k+ hole in its owner’s pockets.

While this GT is almost twice as powerful as the stock variant, its rival, the mighty McLaren 720S, is bone stock. The 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that powers it has 710 hp (720 PS / 530 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque, enabling it to sprint from rest to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds, and up to 212 mph (341 km/h).
