Vadodara: Nearly 27,000 candidates from across the state on Sunday appeared for the Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) which is conducted for determining eligibility for lectureship in universities and colleges of Gujarat.
With addition of five new centres this year, the 13th GSET was held at eleven centres across the state. M S University is the nodal agency for conducting GSET in the state.
“More than 80 % of the 30,900 candidates who had registered for the examination appeared on Sunday. At smaller centres like Bhuj, the number of candidates attending the examination, even touched the 87 % mark,” said professor C N Murthy, member secretary of GSET, adding that the examination passed away peacefully without any hiccups.
“The exams were conducted in a total of 23 subjects. We had observers from the University Grants Commission (UGC) who had remained present at all the 11 centres in the state. The UGC observers have also given a positive feedback regarding the conduct and preparations for the examinations,” he said.
GSET was conducted as per the new guidelines of UGC at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat apart from the new centres including Valsad, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Godhra, Jamnagar and Bhuj.
Of the total 23 individual subjects for which the test was conducted, the maximum number of candidates had registered for commerce as a subject while only 72 candidates had registered for the test in subject of philosophy.
Ahead of GSET, MSU had also initiated a training programme for students to clear NET and GSET examination.
“It is a proud moment for us that we were the first university to conduct such a training programme with the support of the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat to prepare candidates. The training programme which was held between September 1 and September 15, had witnessed participation of around 225 students,” he said.
