LUDHIANA: The
MC kept its Suvidha centres opened on Saturday, as September 30 is the last day to avail 10% rebate on
property tax payment, and in one day itself, they generated Rs5.03 crore from 4,861 returns filed by people. Officials claimed they had collected Rs45 crore so far, out of which Rs35 crore was of the current financial year.
However, long queues at the Suvidha centre had forced people to use the online option to make their
payments. Officials claimed that out of 4,861 returns, 1,553 were filed online. The offices will remain open on Sunday as well, and a similar rush was expected by officials.
MC superintendent Vivek Verma said: “For this year, 89,000 people have filed their
tax returns, but even now, more than one lakh returns are pending. People have time until Sunday to avail the 10% rebate.” He said they had a target of Rs100 crore from the property tax this year, and it was expected they would cross Rs50 crore on Sunday, as they had already generated Rs45 crore.
