Vadodara: After playing tug-of-war with student leaders for nearly 48 hours, M S University has finally agreed to allow MSU Students Union (MSUSU) office-bearers to organize ‘Ratri before Navratri’ at a plot behind ‘adhyapak kutir’.
The stand-off between MSU officials and MSUSU general secretary (GS) and his supporters is going on for the last two days after the GS sought permission to organize the garba programme at the union pavilion ground. MSUSU GS Vraj Patel and his supporters had also sat on a ‘dharna’ outside the residence of MSU’s in-charge registrar N K Ojha late on Saturday night alleging that the university was doing injustice to students by not giving permission for garba at this ground.
But the university officials insisted that the student leaders themselves should not use the pavilion for any non-sports activity, which will damage the playing area at the pavilion.
On Sunday morning too, student leaders continued with their demands while Ojha kept on insisting that the pavilion ground will get damaged if the permission for the programme is given to them. Later, Ojha took the student leaders to a couple of sites including the plot adjacent to Experimental School, one near the unit building and later to a barren land adjacent to union pavilion ground which is lying unutilized.
After a lot of convincing and deliberations, the student leaders have agreed that the programme can be held at this plot which although is part of the pavilion ground has not been developed as playing area.
The entry for this ground is from the NCC firing range side and also from the side of university head office which is used as parking space during convocation ceremonies at the campus.
“We will place the entire proposal before MSU vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas on Monday for approval. Since, this plot is unutilized, it will not affect a single inch of the regular playing area of the union pavilion ground,” he said.
