Yeddyurappa, however, sees a plot to politically corner the former Chief Minister

Though Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday played down the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement that his political opponents plotted his defeat in the Chamundeshwari constituency in the Assembly elections, the Opposition BJP maintained that there was a conspiracy to politically corner the Congress leader.

BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa told reporters here that there was a conspiracy to politically corner Mr. Siddaramaiah. “But it is a surprise that the Congress leader is tolerating such an environment. He will take an appropriate decision at right time,” he said.

Mr. Kumaraswamy desisted from commenting on Mr. Siddaramaiah’s remarks, saying there was no point in responding to such remarks.

On Saturday in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah said some “jealous people worked against him and caused his defeat in Chamundeshwari.”

“My opponents were jealous of me and feared I would come back as Chief Minister again and so they plotted my defeat. They joined together like Rahu, Ketu, and Shani to defeat me in Chamundeshwari. Had I contested from Varuna, they would not have been able to defeat me,” the former Chief Minister said.

When Mr. Kumaraswamy’s reaction was sought on this, he said Mr. Siddaramaiah had expressed his feelings and there was no need for him to react.

Mr. Siddaramaiah contested the elections from two constituencies. He lost from Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru but won from Badami in Bagalkot.
