Mysuru City Corporation seeks Rs 62 crore from state govt for beautification

Mysuru: It is ‘That’ time of the year again in the city again – Dasara is drawing ever the more closer, and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has stepped up efforts to ensure that the city lives up to its reputation for cleanliness, and heritage. Roads and gardens in the city will be revamped ahead of the festival, and a slew of other projects will be taken up to enhance Mysuru’s visual appeal.
The MCC has sent a proposal to the state government seeking Rs 62 crore towards overall development in the four assembly constituencies spread across Mysuru.

MCC commissioner KH Jagadeesha told STOI, “As of now, MCC has undertaken repair of all major thoroughfares using the funds available to us. This includes filling of potholes. This is a routine exercise that we are undertaking. We are keen on beautifying the Rajamarga or the procession route.”

Since the Mysuru Dasara celebrations are held within MCC limits, the civic agency is keen on ensuring that nothing is left to chance as far as guaranteeing a memorable experience for the tourists. “If we get additional funds from the state government, we will undertake more projects. If we get the amount we have requested, we will asphalt the entire Rajamarga,” said Jagadeesha.

Meanwhile, the citizens are expecting a marked improvement in the infrastructure of the city ahead of the celebrations, and fervently hoping for the government to release the funds at the earliest. “Every year, funds for beautification are released at the last minute, and consequently, the quality of the projects undertaken takes a hit. If the state government were to release the funds sooner, MCC can plan better, and initiate civic projects in a phased manner,” said Rupesh Jha, a trader.
