PANAJI: Just 7.1% of Goa’s population uses condoms as a
family planning method, a 0.4% drop since the last decade, the National Family Health
Survey (NFHS) 2015-16, has revealed.
It also states that only a section of females have opted for sterilisation as a method of
birth control, and not a single male.
The study has stated that of the sample picked, condoms for family planning were used by 8.5% of the population in urban areas and 4.4% in rural areas.
The study provides state and national information for India on fertility, infant and child mortality, family planning, maternal and child health, nutrition, as well as on the utilisation and quality of
health and family planning services,
As far as sterilisation is concerned, the survey report has revealed that only women have opted for it as a method of birth control.
According to it, 16.3% females in Goa have been sterilised, almost a 10% drop when compared to figures from the 2005-06 study.
Even the state’s sex ratio has decreased marginally, the survey has stated. When compared with figures from the previous survey, the 2015-16 NFHS report indicates that there are 10 less females being born for every 1,000 males. A total of 1,018 females have been recorded per 1,000 males in Goa, of which the ratio in urban areas is 996:1000, and 1054:1000 in rural areas.
