Noida: Owing to pressure from shopowners at the Sector 18 market, traffic police have allowed the entry of vehicles from sectors 19, 20, etc inside the market through the
China cut after removing one of the jersey barriers placed there. However, those exiting the market will continue to take the U-turn from Atta Peer chowk and will not be allowed a direct movement to Atta market.
While shopowners had asked the traffic police to open the China cut completely until a proposed U-turn is prepared, the cops said the cut will be closed again a day after Diwali. Sources said even some Noida Authority officials had asked the traffic police to do away with half closure of the cut, with the market association ruing that the cut was closed just before the beginning of the festive season — when they expect maximum profits.
The market association had criticised the move saying it had led to “dwindling profits” . On Friday, a delegation of the Sector 18 market association had met Noida Authority general manager Rajiv Tyagi and SP (traffic) Anil Jha , demanding that the China cut be opened till a U-turn proposed about 50 metres ahead is constructed.
“The traffic police assured us that the entry of commuters coming from Sectors 19,20, etc to the market will be allowed till Diwali. We had sought the same be done until the proposed U-turn is constructed. But the traffic police agreed on a condition that the cut will again be half-closed immediately after Diwali,” said Sushil Jain, president of the market association.
