Misuses codes for free outstation trips

The Vadapalani police on Friday arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly cheated a call-taxi firm by misusing their services under the guise of a customer from a construction firm.

The police said that a leading construction firm had engaged a call-taxi firm to provide trips to its customers for site inspection visits. The suspect Sridhar, after seeing an advertisement from the construction firm, called them to make site-visits by posing as a prospective customer who was interested in buying a flat.

The staff of the construction company sent the taxi, provided Sridhar with a code and asked him it to start the ride.

However, the suspect used it for an outstation trips. Subsequently, he began frequently posing as a customer to receive a code and used it for more such trips.

The construction firm and the taxi service remained unaware. Later using the same method, he called for the call-taxi on Wednesday for a trip to Kodaikanal. Then, after checking his records, the company staff found that the suspect had misused the code.

He was apprehended when he reached Chennai.
