Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the decision of Supreme Court (SC) refusing to interfere in the probe by state police against five rights activists in connection with violence in the Bhima-Koregaon in December last year. Fadnavis said it was not just a conspiracy, but a conspiracy to create unrest in the whole country.
Fadnavis said, “Our stand was vindicated. Our evidence were appreciated by the SC. It was a far-reaching judgment. As rightly said by the SC, those who are under question cannot have choice of agency. We will unearth the entire conspiracy and gather enough evidences to convict them.” Advocating the term urban Maoism, Fadnavis said, “This urban Maoism phenomenon is a cover-up for all illegal activities on the ground and in our tribes. We can see it is not only Maoism but they also have links with separatist groups in Kashmir.”
“They have links with our enemy nation. If somebody is going to shield them or try to protect them, then I think, we need strong action against them as it is a crime against the whole nation, that was what the SC said,” Fadnavis said. He also clarified about a letter on a plan to assassinate PM Modi ‘in a Rajiv Gandhi-type incident’. The letter was produced by the police after the arrest of activists from Pune. Fadnavis said, “There are scores and scores of mails and letters in corroborative evidence. Put together, it all sounded like a very big conspiracy, was what we had submitted. There is plenty of evidence, which was observed by the SC.”
The CM reiterated that the urban naxalism posed a big threat to the country. “Basically, the mentality is to take it towards a sort of civil war. Just because you can not defeat the country on the border, you try to create unrest into that country. This is also a type of terrorism, not mere Maoism,” said the chief minister.
