After watching the first season of Little Things, it becomes apparent how the makers came up with the title. It was the little things that mattered in the relationship between an everyday couple, Kavya Kulkarni and Dhruv Vats, played by Mithila Palkar and Dhruv Sehgal respectively, that made the show so relatable, and so popular. The second season, which will soon premiere on Netflix, takes their sweet and sour journey of love forward. After Hrs caught up with Mithila and Dhruv to find out more...
How has Kavya and Dhruv’s relationship grown in season two?
Mithila: We have grown as individuals, so has the relationship. It’s not necessary that when two people in a relationship grow, they grow in the same direction, so there is an imbalance. I think the beauty of it is in finding the balance in this imbalance. I think we are trying to figure out our roles and responsibilities.
Dhruv: The first season was the honeymoon phase in that sense.
Apart from your chemistry, it is the relatable writing that stands out. How much improvisation goes into it?
Dhruv: No, it’s pretty much in the script. It adds to the texture. Also, when the audience ends up watching something like this, this is what they relate to, even if they can’t relate to the bigger plot. That’s what a lot of people have told us. That’s the language we speak in real life and this is the language we speak in the show.
Mithila: It can’t be forced and the fact that it sounds organic is because we don’t deliberately try to make it sound real. That defeats the purpose.
What’s the biggest compliment you’ve received for it?
Dhruv: We got a message on our social media account from a fan, who wrote that he was watching the show after his breakup. He sent a link of the fourth episode to his ex-girlfriend when the fifth was about to release. The girlfriend replied that she was meaning to share the same link with him. So, they decided to watch the fifth episode together and ended up getting back together!
Mithila: We are healers! (laughs) Seriously, it’s a huge responsibility. People tag us with the hashtag ‘relationship goals’. I feel like telling them, ‘we haven’t figured out our own lives yet!’ (laughs)
Dhruv: Maybe, after the second season, they will stop asking us ‘kyunki inhe bhi nahi pata!’ (laughs)
How much are Mithila and Dhruv like their characters?
Mithila: Certain things, like the fact that she’s driven, confident and passionate about what she does, are things I identify with. But, I’m very diplomatic. In that sense, Kavya is way more forthcoming. She will voice her opinion. She is sensitive, but I’m way more sensitive.
Dhruv: I think I’m both Kavya and Dhruv. I switch between the two of them within minutes. I feel fiercely ambitious and laidback too. Sometimes, I’m like, ‘Yeh abhi karna hai’. The next minute, I’m like, ‘You know you can just take a bus and go to Goa!’ (laughs)
