15 business units searched for evading GST

Patna: Commercial Taxes department on Saturday conducted searches at around 15 big business establishments in Patna, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga and Gopalganj among several other districts for evasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST). The establishments searched included Karlo Automobiles (Patna), Rishabh Automobiles (Hajipur), Seemanchal Motors (Bhagalpur and Purnia), Mangal Motors (Motihari) and Bikaji Bhujia (Muzaffarpur).
Commercial Taxes department sources said these business establishments procured goods worth Rs422.84 crore from April to August this year from other states through e-way bills but neither filed the corresponding returns with the department nor paid GST for the same. It was found during the searches that five of the establishments had not paid GST to the tune of Rs57.29 crore. Besides, goods worth Rs70 lakh were seized from Vindhyavasini Sales for lack of required documents during the searches. Scrutiny of documents and stocks were on till late Saturday night, officials claimed.
