PATNA: Patna divisional commissioner Robert L Chongthu has instructed the officials concerned for maintenance and security at Gandhi Maidan for Gandhi Jayanti celebration on October 2. Entry for morning walkers and visitors would be restricted at the Maidan on October 1 and 2.
Chongthu inspected the Maidan on Friday and asked Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to clean the ground, keep away stray animals and pump out stagnant water by September 30. “Due to pipe leakages, the fourth gate near the food court and open gym were waterlogged. This issue should be resolved at the earliest for the convenience of public,” he said.

Chongthu asked the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) officials to replace the broken tiles and relics, level the pathways and trim the trees. He said more saplings and flowers should be planted in the garden near Bapu statue to ensure beautification of the area before October 2.

Officials from Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU) were also asked to make proper lighting arrangements and remove the dangling electric wires in and around Gandhi Maidan. The divisional commissioner said water ATM would be installed near gate number 1, 5, 7 and 10.

“Four ambulances, each with a team of doctors, will be deputed at the major gates for the guests, who will pay tributes to Gandhi’s statue on the occasion,” he said.

Chongthu also directed the traffic police to make arrangements for parking of two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers. Gandhi Maidan will be equipped with more CCTV cameras for security reasons, he added.
