Patients had to suffer as 6,000 chemist shops in the city remained shut on Friday as part of a nationwide strike. The strike was in protest against the Centre’s draft rules on sale of drugs through e-pharmacies.
Ranjana (54) had unbearable pain in her lower back on Friday. She visited a doctor who prescribed some medicines. But as all chemists were closed, Ranjana’s family could not get the medicines and her entire day went in agony.
Like her, several patients looking to purchase medicines from private chemists, underwent trouble on Friday as they kept running from one locality to another, looking for a chemist shop.
Rows of chemists outside prominent hospitals including KGMU, Civil hospital and
Balrampur hospital and the medicine market at Aminabad remained shut. The city has 4,000 retail chemists and 2,000 wholesale medicine suppliers.
