McLaren has only recently allowed journalists to sit behind the wheel of the all-new 600LT. While some were flown to Portugal, others were taken to Hungary, where they had the chance to experience the supercar at the Hungaroring track.

The 4.38-km (2.72-mile) long circuit is the home to the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix and, due to it not seeing much action in the rest of the year, is usually quite dusty and, thus, slippery.

Even so, it is a very good venue in which to sample the latest hardcore machine to come out of Woking’s gates, as you can see in the following in-car video.

Before hitting the play button, let’s bring ourselves up to speed about the 600LT.

First, it’s the fourth Long Tail (LT) model in McLaren’s history, after the F1 GTR, 675LT Coupe and 675LT Spider. Second, it was built to excel on race tracks, but it’s more than capable being used as a daily driver, too, despite more than 23 percent of its parts being different than the ones used in the standard 570S in order to provide a more hardcore experience. And third, it’s the first Sports Series model ever to get the LT treatment.

Beneath the new carbon panels lies McLaren’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 which, in the 600LT, delivers 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque.

That’s 30 PS (30 hp / 22 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) of torque more than the 570S that, combined with a weight reduction of 96 kg (211 lbs), allows the latest Long Tail Macca to hit the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark 2.9 seconds after setting off. The 0 to 200 km/h (0-124 mph) acceleration is completed in 8.2 seconds, and top speed stands at 328 km/h (204 mph).

By comparison, the 570S is 0.3 and 1.3 seconds slower to 100 and 200 km/h (62 / 124 mph) respectively, and has an identical top speed.
