It will offer help to domestic and international sightseers

The police on Friday opened a new aid-post at the renovated S.M. Street to offer help to domestic and international sightseers. M.K. Muneer, MLA, and Mayor Thottathil Raveendran jointly inaugurated the new service, which was introduced with the support of the Tourism Department.

District Collector U.V. Jose, District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) S. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, and Deputy Police Commissioner T.M. Tomy were present on the occasion. Circle Inspector A. Umesh, who is also the Station House Officer at Town Station, said the aid-post would primarily function as a general information counter, besides handling law and order responsibilities. “We also hope it will improve the safety feeling of visitors to the spot,” he added.

The counter will be functional from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Policemen from the Town Station will be posted at the facility. The operational cost of the booth will be borne by the District Tourism Promotion Council, officials said.
