India opener Shikhar Dhawan said that he enjoyed batting during the Asia Cup tournament and hoped to continue in the same manner in the future.
Dhawan was selected the 'Player of the Series' after India defended their Asia Cup title on Friday against Bangladesh in a thriller that went down the very last ball.
Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer for India with 342 runs in five matches at an average of over 70. He was also top scorer in the tournament. His opening partner Rohit Sharma was the second highest run-getter with 317 runs at an average of 105.66 in five matches.
Dhawan's success with the bat comes after a very disappointing England tour where he failed to register a single fifty plus score in eight innings.
Dhawan said that while he was under pressure in England, he wanted to achieve consistency in his batting to go with the elegance during the Asia Cup.
“I enjoyed this tournament. Fantastic final. Good tournament for me and enjoyed my batting, and hope to continue the same way,” he said during the post match presentation and went on to add, “I enjoy playing it in a cool and mature manner. I was playing more calmly this time, and I want consistency and elegance at the same time.”
Dhawan registered scores of 127, 46, 40, 114 and 15 in the Asia Cup 2018.
He and Rohit provided good starts for India up the the order throughout the tournament.
“Rohit and I keep switching the aggressor’s role sometimes, and I congratulate him for having a fantastic Asia Cup too,” said Dhawan on his partnership with Rohit.
