LUCKNOW: Two students found a unique way to fulfil their love for cars. They took a car, which was up for sale, for a test drive and then sped off in it. The incident took place in Vibhuti Khand of Gomtinagar on September 19.
But they could not enjoy the free drives for long. The accused students, Ritesh Anand and Simon Bames, both 19 years old, were nabbed on Kathauta road in Vibhuti Khand on Friday morning. Police recovered two stolen cars from them.
Ritesh, a native of
Bihar, is pursuing BBA, while Simon is in BCom II year and hails from
Gorakhpur. Both study in a private university in Lucknow and stay in a rented room in Chinhat.
Ritesh’s father Narendra Kumar is a teacher while Simon is son of Colonel
Samson Sushil Bames, who is posted in
Himachal Pradesh.
Shobhit Mishra, a resident of Gomtinagar, had given an online advertisement for selling his car. On September 19, Simon and Simon met Shobhit and evinced interest in buying his car.
“They asked for a test drive before buying the four-wheeler. Shobhit agreed for it. The duo sat in the car, went for the drive but didn’t return,” said police spokesperson AK Singh.
“Since the two students had earlier spoken with Shobhit over phone he had their mobile number. We had put the number on electronic surveillance on Shobhit’s complaint and traced them on Kathauta road around 10:30am on Friday,” SHO Vibhuti Khand Mathura Rai.
“Ritesh and Simon told us they wanted to own a car but did not have enough money to buy one. So they started stealing four-wheelers,” SHO added.
They also confessed that they used to change the number plate and body of the car to a certain extent to save themselves from getting identified,” SHO said. An FIR has been registered against them.
