CHENNAI: The government railway police have registered a case against a railway guard on charges of misbehaving with a Class XII student on Wednesday.
The girl, in her complaint, said she stepped into the guard’s cabin on the Silambu Express at Egmore station to request him to stop the train briefly to help her mother board it when he touched her inappropriately and pushed her down on to the platform.

Police, who have requested Southern Railway officials to provide the name of the guard involved in the alleged incident, said they were also considering slapping a case against the girl for entering the guard’s cabin without permission.

Around 8.30pm, police quoting from the complaint said, the girl and her mother, who had reserved tickets to travel from Chennai to Karaikudi by B1 coach of the Silambu Express, entered platform 2 of Egmore Railway Station even as the train was rolling out.

The rattled girl, according to the complainant, then climbed up to the guard’s cabin and requested him to help her stop the train as her mother was yet to board the train.

The guard, she claimed in the complaint, then made calls and got the train to stop at the end of the platform and touched her inappropriately. He also rudely pushed her down on to the platform, she said.

The girl said she immediately informed the Station Master and a complaint was lodged with the Egmore Government Railway Police.

“We have registered a FIR in the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and are investigating. However, it is illegal to get into the guard’s compartment. Once we make inquiries with the guard, we will take a decision on whether to register a FIR against the girl too,” said a senior police officer.
