In a setback to the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, former MLA from Rewa Pushpraj Singh on Friday joined the Congress in the presence of party President Rahul Gandhi. Pushpraj Singh is the second Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Madhya Pradesh to join the Congress after Padma Shukla from Katni district.
Former minister Pushpraj Singh returned to the Congress Party on Friday, giving a jolt to the BJP in the state. Singh who belongs to the royal family of Rewa and left the Congress ten years ago joined back the party in presence of its national president Rahul Gandhi.
His son Divyaraj Singh is a BJP MLA from Sirmaur assembly constituency in Rewa. The incident gave jolt to the ruling party which was planning to field Pushpraj Singh in the ensuing assembly elections.
Pushpraj Singh who contested assembly election on Samajwadi Party ticket may be fielded by the Congress from any assembly constituency in Rewa in the ensuing assembly polls. Gandhi who was on a trip to Vindhyachal region went to Pushpraj’s house along with MPCC president Kamal Nath, MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and leader of opposition Ajay Singh, to bring him back to the party. This was the second jolt that Nath gave to the BJP within a week, as chairperson of the social welfare board Padma Shukla from Katni district had joined the Congress only on Monday.
