It's being billed as the world's tallest statue and before it's inauguration, it's repeatedlt been the subject of controversy. The Rs 3,000 crore staue of Sardar Vallabhai Patel called the 'Statue of Unity' was the subject of an acrimonious war of words between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and BJP chief Amit Shah on Thursday. At an election really in Madhya Pradesh, Rahul alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "insulting" Sardar Patel by building his giant statue in Gujarat which is 'Made in China' "Narendra Modi ji is making the statue of Sardar Patel in Gujarat. It is the world's tallest statue, it is a good work, but it is 'Made in China'. This is an insult to Sardar Patel...," Rahul said. The BJP, as expected, hit back, soon afterwards, with party president Amit Shah calling Rahul's attempts 'shameful' and accusing his family of trying to erase Patel's 'legacy'. Shah tweeted,"Dear Rahul Gandhi, your family humiliated Sardar Patel, unsuccessfully tried to erase his legacy from the people's hearts and minds. Your lies on the 'statue of unity' is another display of your visceral hatred towards Sardar Patel. The 'Statue of Unity' is being built in Gujarat's Narmada district and is slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on Patel's birth anniversary on October 31.
